Original hardcover "Weekly Reader" edition, for $1 at the flea market. Now I jsut need to find a copy of "Katy & the Big Snow" and I'll have my two favorite childhood books again.

Whenever we go by this old steam shovel, I'm reminded of this book.

Yes! One of the first books I can remember (Scuffy the Tugboat might have been earlier, not sure). Bought a copy for my kid before he was born. He's 19 months now and loves it, one of his go-to favorites.

Virginia Lee Burton has several great, vehicle-related books like this and Katy. See also Choo Choo and Maybelle the Cable Car. My boys love 'em!
